Rebuilding Homes and Lives
Aiding in Recovery
Marvin and Debbie Savoie had no idea about all the places God would send them when they put their “yes” on the table. After years of international missions service, Marvin and Debbie landed in a place closer to home: Pointe-aux-Chenes, Louisiana. They easily transitioned to their new mission field (home to members of the Pointe-au-Chien Indian Tribe) because Marvin’s grandmother was a part of the United Houma Indian Nation. “I found some lost relatives I didn’t know,” Marvin explained.
This small community was devastated in the wake of Hurricane Ida. The storm destroyed 78 homes, so the need for compassion and the gospel was great. The Georgia Barnette Louisiana Missions Offering continues to repair homes and minister to the people of Pointe-aux-Chenes through the Disaster Relief Rebuild program. Rebuild provides building materials and coordinates the work and feeding of the volunteer crews.
As Rebuild site coordinators, the Savoies have been in Pointe-aux-Chenes for over a year. The community is slowly coming back and the Baptist church where Marvin and Debbie serve is experiencing a great awakening. “More and more people are coming to hear the Word,” Debbie reported.
Prayer Needs
- Pray for more DR Rebuild volunteers to help restore this community where people are still hurting and without homes.
- Pray that the elderly community would be reached, and that God would continue to give them health and hope.
- Pray for Marvin and Debbie to have wisdom as they continue to serve the Lord and the community.
